About Blurry Words...

Welcome, I’m Mike. I’m the guy running the show around here; the generator of all you see hosted on Blurry Words. The Mii to the right is a pretty accurate depiction of me, if you were wondering what I may look like. The only difference is that I wear glasses now…and I’m not a cartoon.

Blurry Words has been around since late October of 2008. It’s a place for my thoughts, opinions and knowledge to run wild. It also doubles as a good way to get stuff out of my head without burdening anyone else to listen…like my wife. She really doesn’t care for my rants on software shit.

My Background…

As I just alluded to, I’m a software developer; have been since May of 2004. I’ve worked primarily in the gaming and mobile industries; often intertwining the two. I’m currently employed by Research In Motion (the guys that make the BlackBerry smartphones; for those of you not quick on the uptake) where I’ve done work in DRM, Core UI, and most recently the Universal Search Application. Check out my resume for more on my past work, if you’re interested.

What You Can Expect…

Subjects I touch upon include video games, software, development in both, but I can’t promise to stick within those domains. I’ve tried in the past to stick to a set of defined categories for my content. It just doesn’t work. Topics act as big ol’ fat writing blocks for me. So, I avoid them and just write about whatever I can turn into a decent post.

Under the Hood…

WordPress used to power Blurry Words. But, it’s too verbose of a solution for my needs. Tinkering with the design and layout of BW was tedious and frustrating in WordPress. It drove me crazy. So, I kicked it to the curve.

In stepped Jekyll and I couldn’t be happier with this solution. In the developer of Jekyll’s own words, “Jekyll is a simple, blog aware, static site generator”. It’s fantastic. In the simplist definition of the word, Jekyll is a compiler. You write your post in Markdown or Textile, supply some CSS and it compiles it all into HTML. There’s no databases; just static pages that you sync with your server every time you have a new post.

I’m loving it and I’m sure any developer would agree. Just imagine how simple this makes source control for your blog’s content. Here’s the site for you to check it out.

Comments…

There’s no commenting on Blurry Words. I used to have comments, but I got sick of weighing through seas of penis enlargement offers for the one or two sincere comments that were submitted. If you have some feedback on a post, or notice any errors or typos, I would love to hear from you. Shoot me an email.

The Disclaimer…

Finally, it should go without saying, but I’ll say it anyways. Any opinions expressed here are my own. They don’t reflect the opinions or philosophies of the companies I’ve worked for or are currently employed by. This is just me…no one else.

With that, again, welcome to Blurry Words!
